15th Biomedical Engineering Meeting

The 15th Biomedical Engineering Meeting took place in the Aula Magna of the FMUL on 11 October. The theme of this year’s Meeting was the technological challenges for new therapeutic and diagnostic approaches. About 70 people were present, including students and lecturers from the two institutions, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) and the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). Start of the Academic Year 2017/2018 at the University of Lisbon

On 20 September, the University of Lisbon welcomed not only all first year students but also its international students. This celebration took place at the Rector’s Office of the University of Lisbon and coincided with Professor António Cruz Serra’s, the Rector, swearing in. It was attended by the President of the General Council of the University, Dr. Leonor Beleza and by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. University of Lisbon among the best Universities in the World

The Center for World University Rankings – Ranking CWRU placed the University of Lisbon among the best in the world, in a universe of 27,770 evaluated university institutions. FMUL and ISAMB represented in a staff exchange programme within the framework of an European project

The bank that stores blood, tumours, bones and saliva samples

Biobank-iMM contains biological samples of blood, bone, saliva, serum, urine, DNA, cartilage fluid, and tumour tissues from healthy and sick people. The aim is to study various diseases, cancers, and rheumatological and neurological diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Portuguese scientists identify new molecular interactions that explain cognitive deficit in Parkinson’s disease

A team consisting of researchers from the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (Luísa Lopes), the New University of Lisbon and the University of Göttingen (Tiago Outeiro), Germany, after identifying a mechanism responsible for memory failures associated with Parkinson’s disease, have discovered a caffeine-like drug that blocks these memory failures. It is never too late to celebrate the sporting successes of our student athletes, who brought to Portugal 3 medals, won in Taiwan, at the 29th Summer Universities Meeting of 2017. Francisco Belo, responsible for winning the gold medal in Taipei, distinguished himself in shot putting with a mark of 20.86 metres, beating his personal record. European Cystic Fibrosis Day celebrated at charity event

On 21 November, a Solidarity Musical Event will be held at the Tivoli Theatre to support the Cystic Fibrosis National Association (ANFQ). The Medical Orchestra and Choir and the Medical Drama Group, composed by physicians and students of the Medical Faculties of Lisbon, will participate in the event, which will also have the collaboration of some members of the OperaWave Group. O Hospital dos Pequeninos

Nos dias 18 e 19 de novembro, a Associação de Estudantes da Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa organiza, pela 16ª vez o ‘Hospital dos Pequeninos’ no Pavilhão do Conhecimento. O Hospital dos Pequeninos tem já uma longa história, e certo é que nem as crianças nem os pais se esquecem desta extraordinária experiência. Noite da Medicina 2017

“A Noite da Medicina é o maior e mais antigo espetáculo organizado por uma faculdade, em Portugal. Consiste num evento académico de cariz cultural, sem fins lucrativos, realizado anualmente pelos alunos finalistas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa. ​​Nesta noite, que conta com uma audiência de cerca de 3000 pessoas, 400 estudantes sobem ao palco e, numa sátira por eles recriada, relembram o seu quotidiano, inquietações e paixões. AIMS Meeting

  A Annual International Medical Students Meeting, AIMS, é uma conferência organizada pelos estudantes da nossa Faculdade. A 9ª Edição ocorrerá nos dias 16 a 18 de março de 2018.     No âmbito da preparação deste Encontro, foram organizadas as AIMS Masterclasses, com inicio marcado para 7 de novembro. Estas AIMS Masterclasses são compostas por 3 palestras e 15 workshops destinadas a todos os alunos. As inscrições iniciaram em 29 de outubro!
