Professor Monteiro-Grillo takes over the presidency of the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology

Professor Manuel Monteiro-Grillo, retired Auxiliary Professor at FMUL and former Director of the Ophthalmology University Clinic, was elected President of the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology (SPO) for the 2017/2018 biennium. The inauguration ceremony of the new Directorate took place on 14 January at the headquarters of the SPO. Launch of the journal Coração e Vasos (Heart and Vessels)

The Department of Heart and Vessels of the Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre (CHLN) started publishing the journal Coração e Vasos whose contents reflect its innovative and ambitious activity. The Department of Heart and Vessels, created in 2015, is part of the Cardiology, Vascular Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery units, directed, respectively, by Professors Fausto Pinto, Luís Mendes Pedro and Ângelo Nobre. The 23rd Conference on Paediatrics, considered by the specialists as one of the biggest paediatrics events in Portugal, took place between 8 and 10 February of this year. The 7th New Frontiers in Cardiology Congress was held on 17-19 February and organized by the Association for Research and Development of the Faculty of Medicine (AIDFM), in coordination with the Cardiology Service of the Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre (CHLN) and with the Cardiology University Clinic of the FMUL. Seventh Symposium of the Rare Disease Research Centre

The 7th Symposium of the Rare Disease Research Centre (NEDR), organized by the Centre for the Study of Rare Diseases of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine (SPMI), was held at Hotel Villa Galé in Coimbra on 3 and 4 February this year. 1st Lisbon Living + Conference

In 2013 the University of Lisbon promoted the creation of a collaborative platform called Lisbon Living + with the aim of promoting R&D and innovation activities in the areas of healthy living and active ageing.
