Transfusion Medicine Subject: a pioneering initiative in the Integrated Master Degree in FMUL

The Transfusion Medicine subject was taught for the first time in Portugal in 2013 in the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. Henrique Veiga Fernandes wins two international scientific prizes on the same day

Researcher Henrique Veiga Fernandes, of the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, won two international scientific awards along with his team. He received a Proof of Concept Grant awarded by the European Research Council in the amount of 150 thousand euros, and an award by the US Kenneth Rainin Foundation amounting to 100 thousand euros. Professor Maria do Céu Machado passed her Aggregation Exams with distinction

On 23 and 24 September, the Clinical Director and Director of the Paediatrics Department of the Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre, Professor Maria do Céu Machado, passed her Aggregation Examinations in the field of Medicine, Paediatrics specialty, by unanimous vote. 2013 Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded for work on cell transport

The 2013 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to two American and one German scientists for work that uncovered the mechanism of intracellular transport. The three are professors at universities in the USA. Professor Maria do Carmo Fonseca, director of the Institute of Molecular Medicine, explained the importance of the research conducted by these scientists in a declaration to Ionlinenewspaper. University of Lisbon is the 94th best university in Europe

  With the merger between the former Technical University of Lisbon and the University of Lisbon, the current University of Lisbon (UL) is now among the top places in the higher education qualitative indices world rankings. Results of the survey given to students In order to know the opinion of new students on the welcome given by FMUL and the enrolment process, they were given a survey on the first day of classes (16 September 2013). 276 students participated in the survey, which means a response rate of 88%.
