Bruno Silva-Santos, elected Researcher of the month by Prevenir magazine

Bruno Silva-Santos, Vice-President and Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), in February was elected as researcher of the month by Prevenir magazine, after discovering a chemical compound that may aid in the treatment of leukaemia. This study was jointly funded by the European Research Council (European Commission) and the Foundation for Science and Technology, and was recently published in the scientific journal Leukaemia. Swearing-in of the students who members of the Pedagogical Council As part of the student selection process for the FMUL Pedagogical Council, which was held on 6 March, List E (single list) obtained a total of 205 votes in favour and 5 blank. The swearing-in took place on 13 March at the Rector’s Office of the University of Lisbon. Appointment of Professor Maria do Céu Machado

Professor Fausto Pinto, International Honorary Member of the Japanese Circulation Society

Professor Fausto Pinto, Director of FMUL and CHLN Heart and Vases Department, was honored with the title of International Honorary Member of the Japanese Circulation Society, one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific societies. The standardization of institutional affiliation is fundamental for the visibility of the output, evaluation and recognition of the scientific work conducted by the Faculty of Medicine of ULisboa. Health + Solidarity Race | Faculty to Help Team

The Social Responsibility Project Faculty to Help decided to participate in the Health + Solidarity Race to be held on 7 May at Alameda da Cidade Universitária. The “Faculty to Help Team” chose to donate the revenue raised to the Portuguese Society of Multiple Sclerosis (SPEM). Thus, all members of staff of the Faculty of Medicine (lecturers, researchers and admin staff) who wish to join the “Faculty to Help Team”, participating in the 4Km walk with a cost of € 6 per participant, or the 7km (€ 9)/10km (€ 10) race, are welcome to do so. SR & DT Competition in all Scientific Areas

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) announces that the notice on the opening of the SR & DT Projects Competition in all Scientific Areas was published on 24 February. The application period will end at 7 pm (Lisbon time) on 17 May 2017. The competition covers all the regions of the North, Centre, Lisbon, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores, and Madeira.
