Towards a new University of Lisbon

The statutes of the new University of Lisbon were officially approved, last 4 April. This is not the end of a process, but an important step in a path that will continually require the full participation of the entire UL community. On 7th March, the Main Hall of Instituto Superior Técnico – IST (Higher Technical Institute) hosted the discussion on the project for the statutes of the new University of Lisbon resulting from the merger between the Technical University of Lisbon and the Classical University (UL). “Largest energy efficiency project in academia” launched at the University of Lisbon

  “Sustainable Campus – Green University”  The first stage of the photovoltaic park of the University of Lisbon (UL) was inaugurated on 14 March. By October of the current year, about 10 000 panels are expected to be installed and start producing electricity from the sun, which is equivalent to the consumption of 12,600 households. The UL and Galp Energia launched the project “Sustainable Campus – Green University”, the “largest energy efficiency in academia in Portugal” which will allow the institution to attain international benchmarks. World Voice Day 2013

The World Voice Day was celebrated on 16 April with a voice screening. The objective was to promote the health of the vocal tract and prevent larynx diseases. Studying Medicine at FMUL – Candidate’s Day | 2013

Candidate’s Day took place on 11 April and this year it was part of the Open Day of the University of Lisbon (UL). One hundred and sixteen young people visited us, with an average age of 17 years and coming mainly from the districts of Lisbon and Santarém (88.2%), with the aim of obtaining information on which to inform their choice when applying to higher education (73.7%). Scholarships to support the cure of degenerative diseases such as Parkinson and Alzheimer

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa will focus on research in the field of neuroscience. The announcement was made in March by director Pedro Santana Lopes. There will be two separate scholarships, each in the amount of 200 000 euros, a total of de 400 000 euros, and they will be awarded annually. One of the scholarships is aimed at supporting the treatment and cure of degenerative diseases associated with ageing, such as Parkinson and Alzheimer. 17ª Corrida Terry Fox | 12 de Maio

Esta corrida de solidariedade, também conhecida como Maratona da Esperança, vai realizar-se no dia 12 Maio (sábado) no Parque das Nações (junto ao Pavilhão de Portugal/Rossio dos Olivais), com inscrições a partir das 9h30, e início às 11h00. A corrida é uma homenagem ao jovem canadiano Terry Fox, que, apesar de lhe ter sido diagnosticado um carcinoma ósseo e mesmo após lhe ser amputada a perna direita, acreditou que era possível lutar contra o cancro.
