In this years’ last issue, we take hold of our activities, regarding what was published, what to expect in 2013, even though these days are not particularly favorable to predictions. 2012 was a year of strong economic recession, which greatly affected the public university and the academic activities, teaching and research. Medicine Nobel for discovery that adult cells can be reprogrammed

In Público. «British John Gurdon and Japanese Shinya Yamanaka Japanese won the Nobel Prize forMedicine in 2012 for the discovery that adult cells, as a specialized organ, can be reprogrammed to return to a past in which they have the characteristics of stem cells from embryos. University of Lisbon Prize 2013

October 22 to December 15, 2012 The University of Lisbon Award (Prémio Universidade de Lisboa) aims to distinguish and reward a Portuguese or foreignindividuality working in Portugal for at least five years, whose works of recognized scientific and / or cultural merit, havemade outstanding contributions to the advancement and enhancement of Science and / or culture and the country’sinternational profile. Biobank-IMM – Presentation

The IMM-Biobank is a structure set up by the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, which receives and stores a vast collection of biological samples donated on a volunteer basis, aiming at boosting biomedical research. Food Bank Campaign, 1-2 December – Faculty of Giving

1-2 DECEMBER CAMPAIGN RESULTS Once more, the Faculty of Giving would like to thank all the volunteers who gave a little of their time and generosity to take part in the Food Bank Campaign in the Pingo Doce Supermarket, in Galhardas. We have gathered 2,844 Kgs of food in this campaign. This adds to the roughly 768 tons of food gathered in the Lisbon area.
