Edgar Gomes was one of four researchers in Portugal honoured by the European Research Council Edgar Gomes is part of a group of 312 researchers who, over the next five years, will receive funding to continue their research project under the Consolidator Grants of the European Research Council (ERC). Three research projects were awarded prizes for the optimization of biological therapies in chronic inflammatory and disabling diseases. Effective drug against severe general infection  Luís Ferreira Moita and Nuno Figueiredo, of the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, found that the pharmacological class of Anthracyclines used in cancer treatment is effective in the treatment of severe sepsis in mice. University of Lisbon in second place in the Ibero-American ranking for scientific output

The new University of Lisbon came second in the Ibero-American ranking that evaluates the scientific output of higher education institutions, ahead of all its Spanish counterparts. Gauging Research Day

GAPIC gapicmail@fm.ul.pt When gauging the opinion of participants about Research Day by means of a survey, it appears that it was, once again, a successful event, as all participants unanimously indicated that this day should continue to be promoted (95,8%). This second edition attracted 218 registrations, and of these 69.3% actually attended the event. The vast majority of the 151 participants were from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (94%), mostly students of the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine (93.4%) in year 3 (24.8%) and year 4 (24.8%).
