Shall we lose some extra weight?

2017 | Open Space Comments Off on Shall we lose some extra weight?

Did you know that over half of the Portuguese population is overweight?

In order to draw attention to the issue of pre-obesity and obesity, this year the World Obesity Day was celebrated on 11 October for the first time.

Since sedentary lifestyle, poor diet and lack of physical exercise are the main reasons for the worsening of obesity in Portugal, the FMUL Newsletter reiterates to all colleagues the challenge launched by the Association of Students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (AEFML): avoid using lifts as much as possible and start using the stairs!

The information, which the AEFMUL duly indicated in several flights of stairs of the Santa Maria Hospital, expresses the effort expended in calories.

A sporting practice that is manifestly insufficient or non-existent, often neglected and rushed eating habits, in addition to increasingly sedentary habits, are factors that harm your health and compromise your future. In addition to the harm that it causes to self-image, obesity has direct health implications and is often associated with other pathologies:

  • Cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, arteriosclerosis, congestive heart failure, angina pectoris);
  • Type II Diabetes;
  • Dyslipidaemias;
  • Respiratory system problems (dyspnoea, obese respiratory insufficiency syndrome, sleep apnoea);
  • Osteoarticular diseases;
  • Infertility;
  • Urinary incontinence;
  • Prostate cancer.

Check out the calories you can lose and do not waste this opportunity!

If you usually participate in the Health + Solidarity Race or intend to start doing it, remember that you have to practice …

And given that there are timeless campaigns, this month we wanted to reinforce that it is worth looking at the ground you tread on and think that each step you take is weight that you lose!
